Forge Side 5pts West Mon 36

Playing Forge Side in the Ivor Jones cup has not provided happy memories for West Mon over the years.  Indeed prior to this game, the records indicate that of the 11 previous meeting in this tournament (and there are probably more), we have lost every one.

Therefore it was particularly satisfying to secure our first ever win in this competition against the top of the valley side,  and score five tries in the process of reaching the cup semi final

The key to the win was the explosive start by the visitors who went 24 points up in as many minutes through tries by the Casey Roomus, Jonny "the poacher" Coleman and that Viking Warrior Jamie James who ran 30 yards .

At this point  West Mon were threatening to run up a cricket score as Forge Side struggled to deal with the dominance of the visitors pack and whose backs ran the lines that were missing in the previous week's game.

However two rather harshly disallowed tries for Gibbo and Bod seemed to have an adverse effect on the visitors, but equally seemed to galvanise Forge Side who responded with a well taken try near the posts.

The second half proved to be just as exciting as the first with both sides having there moments before the visitors wrapped the game up with further tries by captain Luke Royal and a second for Jonny Coleman who crossed for his 11th try of the season, not bad for a tight head prop.

There were four conversions and a penalty goal to complete the scoring by Casey Roomus, who enjoyed a quite outstanding afternoon in the full back position.

James Reed again showed what a class player he is in the scrum half position whilst Dion Perry and Jason Morgan ran hard on the wings when the opportunities presented.

New signing Craig Jones was a second half substitute whose contribution suggests that he will be a big asset come the business end of the season

Whilst it was quite a comfortable victory in the end, our opponents showed plenty of spirit and tenacity as you would expect from a proud club such as Forge Side.

Nevertheless the score line and result was very pleasing to all concerned with West Mon who can now look forward to the semi final during the 1st week April.
