Cardiff Quins 33pts West Mon 54

A blistering game in blistering temperatures saw West Mon continue its build up to the new season with an exciting victory in Cardiff scoring 8 tries in the process. Whilst the scoreline was pleasing, what was equally important was seeing the success of the structure which the coaches have worked so hard to implement in pre-season training.

Indeed this was evident from the way the team responded to conceding an early score, by then scoring 4 scintillating first half tries of their own as backs and forwards combined well in several sweeping movements often covering the length of the field.

A half time score of 33-14 to the visitors was well deserved. However the beginning of the second half saw the home side come more into the game and expose areas of West Mon’s play which captain Luke Shelton will be looking to tighten up on before the league season starts.

Indeed at one point there was only one score between the two sides and an upset looked on the cards. However full credit to the way that the visitors responded to this challenge scoring 3 tries in the final ten minutes to finish on a high.

Special mention to debutants Mike Harvey and Ashley Leek whilst Rhys Collier and Sion Griffiths enjoyed fine games

All in all another decent work out and as one of the spectators said, “when we are good, we are very very good.

Tries came from Sam 'Cookie' Cook. Jamie James, Dai 'Trigger' Smith, Luke Royal - 3 tries, Ty Watkins and Simon Davies. Robbie Baldock kicked 7 conversions
