West Mon 45 Girlings 10

For our second pre season friendly, West Mon had 30 + plus players who were all given a run out.  Whilst this was great for the coaches it also presented a few headaches as they tried to give all reasonable game time during the 3 x 30 minute periods that were played.

Whilst the numerous changes inevitably affected the continuity of play, it was to the home side's credit that they kept their structure and played to the season's game plan.

Several outstanding tries were scored with a brace from Bobby Cundick who revelled in the running opportunities presented by the front five. The three quarters looked impressive through out and several sweeping movements resulted in a further 2 tries by  the skilful Jake Wells, and one for Luke Royal after a delightful run and pass inside by Kaine Jones which had his father Dean purring with pleasure on the side.

The champagne moment was probably the deft handling skills showed by loose head Scott Leonard in the build up to the try which the player eventually scored himself

The West Mon scrum was solid through out and it was no surprise that this eventually led to the referee awarding a penalty try following a five yard scrum and seven points to the home side (in accordance with the rule change brought in this season)

Robbie Baldock was successful with 4 conversions.

Many thanks to Girlings who played their part in an enjoyable afternoon which was rounded off by a barbecue in the club.
