Cefn Fforest 31 West Mon 14pts

Not the first time we have played the side from Blackwood although games have been few and far between with the last (according to the records held in the bowels of Crewe Hall) being played in 1989

No real argument about the score line but this was a game we could have and should have done better.  Far too many missed tackles and once again a reluctance to put ball through hands to utilise the obvious pace of wings Lord Josh Crewe and Alex Willcox.

West Mon's 45 stone second row partnership was in attendance for the first time this season..........unfortunately for the visitors both were stood on the touchline due to injury.  Without this juggernaut, the visitors were always under pressure in the scrums but stuck to their task manfully.

Part time model Quiet Dave Hopkins continues to develop in the hooker role whilst Shaggy and Deadly Dwayne Gardener performed well in the loose together with ex cage fighter Scott Leonard.

A bruising encounter saw sponge man Geoff Lewis, who was sporting a new pair of Ray Ban sunglasses and Calvin Klein shorts, do more running on the field than some of the players.

I was impressed with Ryan Clark who dealt well with some untidy ball at the back of the scrum

A decent first half deserved more than a 6 to 12 score line  and gave hope that we could do some damage in the second period.  However after the break, most of the damage was done by the homeside's burly centre who we managed to turn into the next Jonah Lomu.

Having said that we still had our moments with Luke Royal making some breaks and captain Dai Preece who was inspirational throughout scoring an opportunist try from a tap penalty.  Craig Buffin had a great day with the boot with some thumping touch finds and also kicking three excellent penalties.

Connor Witcombe was a willing workhorse whilst Welsh speaking Owain Morgan "oedd ardderchog" in the back row.

Whilst disappointing, there were still plenty of positives to take out of this defeat which suggests that with a few adjustments a decent season is still achievable.
