An incredible second half at the Stad de Skew, saw West Mon turn around a 19 point deficit and start the league campaign and its 70th season in fine style with a bonus point victory against a very competitive opponent.

This seemed an unlikely outcome when with 20 minutes to go, the home team had conceded a 5th try and were looking a well beaten side. However some timely substitutions and an increasingly dominant home pack in which Scott Morris and Scott Leonard were outstanding, saw West Mon gain the field position from where they could implement their power game.

The introduction of Luke Shelton was also influential as he and Chubba Lucas together with Richard Prosser, who had replaced Connor Whitcombe, started to secure the line out possession that saw the home team camped on the visitors try line

Tries followed from Luke Royal and Gibbo before Deano Jones crossed in the corner after a break by Gavin Trollope, for the score that brought the two sides level. With 2 minutes to go the pressure was on Robbie Baldock who had the opportunity to win the game for his side, but agonisingly his effort was pulled wide.

A draw seemed the likely result but to the dismay of the opposition, the referee called for the kick to be retaken and this time Robbie made no mistake sending the ball high through the uprights for his 5th conversion of the match.

There was still time for more drama as from the kick off that followed, the visitors left winger ran 30 yards before being stopped inches from the line by a desperate and ultimately match winning tackle by Casey Roomus on his league debut.

The final whistle was wildly celebrated by the Stad de Skew faithful in a game that was a credit to both sides and show cased everything that is good about rugby at this level. For the home side, first half tries were scored by captain Luke Royal after good approach work by Ryan Clark and Dafydd Thomas , whilst the other came from that poacher extraordinaire Jonny Coleman.

Congratulations to Elliot Bodenham, Jake Nash and Cameron Evans who were all making their league debuts whilst Dion Perry was playing his 100th 1st team game.
